Thomson Reuters just released its 2011 list of 100 Top Hospitals. The winners are selected using public data and taking into account both clinical outcomes and financial performance.
From the Thomson Top Hospitals website:
If all Medicare inpatients received the same level of care as those in the 100 Top Hospitals winners:
- 116,000 additional patients would survive each year.
- About 197,000 patient complications would be avoided annually.
- Expense per adjusted discharge would drop by $462.
- The average patient stay would decrease by nearly half a day.
