Running the Good Race: Crothall Team Contributes More Than Money to Southeast Georgia Health System Community
Southeast Georgia Health System team members, physicians and volunteers collaborate each year with community partners to help organize, set up, and run in the annual Southeast Georgia Health System Bridge Run. According to Mayor Bryan Thompson of Brunswick, GA, the event, which includes a Pasta Party the night before the run, raises money for the Health System that serves the entire community. “In small towns, roles tend to merge and blend,” Mayor Thompson explained. “Within two weeks of moving to Brunswick, I was on a committee! Now, I’m the Mayor, and I also work part-time for the Health System Foundation.” He also praised Crothall’s management duo of Chris Jensen and Tom Scott for getting involved with the event.
“Our environmental services team members helped with the logistics of the equipment and supplies, people direction at the Pasta Party, registration, and parking,” Crothall unit manager Tom Scott commented, “and it looks like we’ve got the job again this year. This is a big deal! The run is certified by as the toughest in Georgia…it raises a lot of money for our cancer care programs.” In fact, the entire run is done on one bridge, the Sidney Lanier Bridge, which is 7,780 feet long, making the Run both challenging and scenic. The bridge is traversed twice to complete the 5K and according to the pamphlet, “Is not for the timid!” This year’s event will take place on February 19, expecting over 2,000 participants.
