Penny Wars Do Battle to Help Disabled Veterans

When Office Manager Heather Hayes declared a “Penny War” to aid disabled veterans, Crothall corporate office teams took her at her word. Because only pennies counted as positive points in the competition, warring departments devised tactics to sabotage other teams’ jars with silver coins and extra bills. Team strategists became trickier as the week came to a close, literally rolling up $20 bills within dollar bills to sneak into other jars. Heather declared a truce and had all teams bring their penny arsenals to the front desk for counting. After sorting all of the pennies from other coins and bills in each team’s containers, there was an amazing total of $870.74 collected! 38,409 were pennies and the remaining 48,670 negative points were other coins and bills! For an office staff of 80 people, that’s pretty good warfare! The “spoils” went to a grateful Disabled Veteran’s Fund with teams vowing revenge in future Penny Wars.
