Make A Difference

Patients and family members who find themselves entering the UCH Anschutz Cancer Center have often found it difficult not only from an emotional perspective, but also from a directional standpoint. Medical Housekeeper Blanca Najera is often one of the first people they meet and is often the most memorable. Though her “day job” involves cleaning the cancer center, Blanca comes in on her own time to act as a Guest Services guide. She always seats patients and their families comfortably in the waiting area, then approaches the doctors and nurses to inform them of their patient’s arrival. One customer was so overwhelmed by Blanca’s actions that she called her supervisor to compliment her invaluable service to her and other family members. Blanca has also volunteered her hairdressing, manicure, and pedicure skills to the cancer patients during the center’s Annual Gift of Life Free Services Day in November.
