Crothall Momentum
Environmental Services–
Post-Construction
Cleaning Expertise
a Valued Option
To meet the increased demand for healthcare, many hospitals are expanding services and growing existing facilities. Crothall provides post-construction cleaning capability to clients who are remodeling, modernizing, or building new bed towers. This added value can be customized, and our customers gain the satisfaction of dealing with a team already familiar to them. If the
on-site team members coordinate the cleaning, they also become valuable stakeholders in the success of the new area. Post-construction cleaning has been completed in many Crothall accounts, including Northwestern Memorial Hospital (Chicago, IL), The Children’s Hospital (Denver, CO), Freeman Health System (Joplin, MO), Lehigh Valley Hospital
(Allentown, PA), JPS Health Network (Ft. Worth, TX), and Memorial Health System (Colorado Springs, CO). Both Crothall and our clients benefit from this unique service opportunity.
Laundry & Linen–
HLS in the
National Spotlight
Hospitals seeking efficiencies across the board will find answers in a February 2008 U.S. Business Review article featuring Crothall-managed, 405-employee Hospital Laundry Services in Wheeling, IL. The article details HLS innovations and efficiencies that result in a 30% savings for healthcare facilities
who move laundry processing off site to an outsourced laundry cooperative. HLS offers reusable sterile textiles used in surgery, reducing landfill waste and hazardous waste by 1,500 tons per year. HLS also utilizes an energy recovery system that recaptures heat from used water. That heat is transferred to fresh, incoming city water, raising its temperature from 45 to 100ºF, and saving hundreds of thousands of dollars. HLS is developing a strategy that combines
water re-use with water
recycling. Since February, they’ve achieved an annualized water usage reduction of 30 million gallons, with plans to reduce by another 20-30 million annualized gallons in the coming months.
Patient Transportation–
No Need to Recreate
the Wheel; Crothall’s Already Rolling...
As hospitals attempt to resolve capacity issues by expanding their emergency rooms, many now realize that they are one move away from strategically facilitating patient flow. At a recent healthcare symposium called “Strategies to Manage and Maximize Capacity,” speakers addressed this important issue, advocating solutions in line with those Crothall has been providing through its Patient Transportation division: dedicated patient flow personnel, technology
to manage the process,
and support staff that improve response and travel time. In addition, Crothall’s strategy results in removing nursing from non-clinical transport functions, maximizing transport staff
productivity, minimizing response times, and virtually eliminating wait times for dirty bed notification
to Environmental Services. Crothall has cleared the way
for better capacity solutions and
is ready to help clients make
the move.
Facilities Management–
Project Services Group,
an Infrastructure Option
Healthcare providers have placed
a high priority on updating their buildings and infrastructure in order to meet the changing needs of their patients, reduce operating costs, and improve plant safety and reliability levels. For the last 10 years, the Project Services Group of Crothall Facilities Management has helped healthcare institutions nationwide to understand their building infrastructure
and utility requirements, and then take a leadership role in the implementation of strategies to satisfy those needs. The group provides a continuum of services from consulting and evaluation to turnkey implementation with guaranteed pricing, and operates as a seamless extension of the site-based Crothall Plant Operations & Maintenance
staff. Project Services Group has executed over $40 million of capital improvements for healthcare clients, which have produced more comfortable, safe, and efficient patient care environments with guaranteed results.
Clinical Equipment Services–
Advanced Imaging
Center Engineered
Crothall Biomedical Engineers at Shands Medical Center worked with hospital staff and equipment vendors to help open the new Center for Advanced CT and MR Imaging. A new building will house the 3 Tesla TIM Trio MRI (3T MRI) and a
64-slice CT system. The 3T MRI is capable of creating 3-D images of different body parts, including the moving heart. The 3T is so fast that
it can scan the entire body in just
six minutes, and it can evaluate abnormalities before permanent damage has occurred. It enables physicians and scientists to observe early scarring and mildly impaired blood flow to the heart muscle. The CT scanner allows radiologists to evaluate cardiac patients quicker than traditional CT technology and provides substantially less radiation than a single-source CT scan. This new Center helps speed patient throughput, providing easier access for outpatients and pre-admissions

Crothall Cares
Warming Hearts and Touching Lives
Marching for Babies
Every year, a team of Crothall
volunteers “walks the walk” – The March for Babies – raising money for the worthy cause. Previously known as The March of Dimes, the organization’s mission champions the needs of moms and babies across the nation. Crothall’s walkers raised donations that will support lifesaving research, services, education,
and advocacy that help babies get a healthy start. This year’s walk took place on Sunday, April 27, near Crothall’s corporate office. The Crothall team included (Front Row): Heather Hayes, Sarah Willard, Nicole Pasquarello; (Back Row): Debbie Steeg, Christine Cason, Michelle Williams, with Sandy Ross helping out.
Donations are still being received online at:
