Make A Difference

A patient who recently had heart surgery was admitted to the Cardiovascular ICU. He called and requested a meeting with the housekeeping director. The patient wanted to impress upon the director the effect Annie had on him and his recovery. He said that although he was sure her actual cleaning was fine, that’s not what he cared about. All he knew was that he was at the lowest point in his life and her smile lifted him up. He continued on for about 15 minutes, with tears in his eyes as he described how wonderful she was and how her conversations with him had helped him more than anything else.

A few days later, he was transferred to another unit. Again, he asked to speak with the director. He wanted to express his happiness that Annie still came to check on him. His wife was surprised to learn that Annie was no longer the housekeeper for that room because she continued to visit with the couple every day.
