Alertness and Quick Response Saves a Life

It was a typical day of transports for Corry Moore at St. Francis Hospital. Corry joined the Patient Transportation team in 2004 and had been stationed in the Cardiac Catheter Lab for the past two years, so it came as no surprise when he received a request to transport a patient from the lab to his room.

It wasn't long after leaving the Cath Lab that Corry realized that there was something terribly wrong with the patient, who went from being in distress to being non-responsive. Thinking fast, Corry fell back on his training and common sense, and ret

rned the patient to the lab as quickly as he could.
Upon arriving back in the Cath Lab, the clinical staff determined that the patient didn't have a pulse, and a code was called. The patient was defibrillated, after which a normal sinus rhythm was established. A short time later, the patient regained consciousness and continued on to a full recovery.

Corry's alertness and quick response, along with the actions of the clinical staff, contributed towards saving this person's life. In recognition of his actions, Corry has received the Torch Award from Saint Francis Hospital, and has also received personal thanks from the patient.

From what we've heard, Corry not only made a difference in the life of this patient, but works hard to set an example for those around him with his attitude and willingness to help others. Congratulations on a job well done!
