Cold Temperatures, Warm HeartsCrothall Helps Children’s Memorial Hospital in Denver, CO “Dig Out” As of the end of January, Denver snowfall had already surpassed the average annual amount. And February and March, typically Denver's snowiest months, were yet to come. The winter of 2006-2007 began with a blizzard the week before Christmas, dumping 30 inches of snow and endangering patients and staff at Children's Memorial Hospital in Denver, CO. A week later, another 12-15 inches fell. For two months, not a week went by without measurable snowfall, breaking many records (no small feat in Denver). The entire hospital community pulled together to overcome this unexpected challenge, and Crothall's Environmental Services (EVS) staff went above and beyond the call of duty to ensure patients and staff were safe and comfortable. Many of Crothall's EVS team stayed in the hospital for over 36 hours during the first, and most severe storm, in December. Because of this display of commitment and dedication on the part of our employees, many Children's Hospital executives wrote to express their gratitude. We would like to share some of them with you and let the entire EVS team at Children's Memorial Hospital know just how proud we are of them! |
"What I experienced from your team was an outstanding level of cooperation, creativity, and innovation in meeting the demands of our patients, families, and staff. Everyone put aside personal needs and focused on those of others. They were a very valuable part of our team in dealing with a very difficult situation." - Mike Farrell EVP/COO
"I really appreciate you all doing your part to meet the National Patient Safety Goal of Preventing Falls, for patients, families, and for staff. That has been a huge project." - Rita Keuten SVP of Nursing
"With the assistance from the entire Crothall staff (management to support staff), all efforts have been given from keeping the main traffic areas clean, dry, and safe, even assisting the Facilities Management Group (FMG) with snow removal. During the first blizzard where staff was asked to remain on site for 24 hours or more, the Crothall management staff worked closely with the FMG staff to provide sleeping accommodations for the hospital staff, including Senior Management.Their efforts, assistance, and commitment throughout this winter season have been greatly appreciated." - Henry Biela Jr. FMG Manager |
