Make a Difference WinnerA respiratory patient at Presbyterian Hospital was walking down the corridor getting some daily exercise. At the same time, Alfredo Encalada, an EVS Technician, was busy going about his usual routine of auto-scrubbing the corridors. Suddenly, the patient collapsed and was in obvious trouble. Alfredo rushed to the patient’s side, while simultaneously asking for help. He remained with the patient, comforting her and providing words of encouragement until a nurse responded to the situation, and ultimately stabilized the patient. Needless to say, the patient, her family, the nursing staff, and the entire respiratory therapy department were impressed and grateful for the care, compassion, and quick thinking exhibited by Alfredo. His actions ensured the safety and well-being of the woman who collapsed, and may have played an important role in her recovery. Those who work with Alfredo every day are certainly proud of him, but are not surprised by his “whatever-it-takes” demeanor, as it is part of who he is and how he goes about doing his job. Sherry Mohr, Director of Respiratory Therapy, described Alfredo’s handling of the situation as “extraordinary!” We couldn’t agree more! |
