In 2009, Crothall Healthcare became the first company dedicated exclusively to healthcare support services to receive CIMS certification from worldwide cleaning industry association ISSA.
In 2011, Crothall was recertified with CIMS and also became the first in healthcare to achieve CIMS-GB certification, with honors. This demonstrates that as an organization, Crothall Healthcare is committed to providing sustainable cleaning service to support the specific goals of our customers.
The Cleaning Industry Management Standard (CIMS) certification program is a rigorous program that sets a new “standard” of excellence for building service contractors. Implementation of the Standard’s signature framework, which is built around five universally accepted quality principles, establishes Crothall Healthcare as a high-performance, customer-focused cleaning organization.
Developed By Peers
CIMS was developed by the leading cleaning trade association worldwide, The International Sanitary Supply Association (ISSA). It was created through a true consensus-based process that brought together representatives of the cleaning, facilities management, and purchasing communities. In total, more than 100,000 constituents were represented in the process, which included full peer review and was administered by ISSA and the American Institute for Cleaning Sciences (AICS).
Rigorous Requirements
To become certified, an organization must demonstrate its compliance with the requirements described in the five sections of management best practices that make up the Standard. An independent, accredited assessor conducts an on-site review of the applicant's systems, processes, and documentation to ensure compliance.
Facility management and purchasing professionals regard CIMS certification as a key differentiation tool, using the program to identify those organizations that have proven to be true companies of excellence and that stand alone among the premier organizations in the industry.

The CIMS framework is built around five universally accepted quality principles:
- Quality Systems: A framework to ensure effective operations and continuous improvement
- Service Delivery: Processes to effectively deliver service
- Human Resources: Best practices of managing people
- Health, Safety, & Environmental Stewardship: Ensuring regulatory compliance, workplace safety, and health and environmental management
- Management Commitment: Establishing our Mission, Vision, and Values and ensuring that the organization’s continuity is secured

What Does “GREEN” Mean to Crothall?
Crothall Healthcare believes that our responsibility is to help implement Green initiatives in a financially responsible and flexible manner that meets the needs of our hospital customers. We call this philosophy GreenChoices. Green solutions must be delivered seamlessly, not viewed as a burdensome side-project that takes a back seat to more pressing needs. Green can be a part of everyday patient care. Crothall achieves this for our customers through the introduction of Green chemicals as well as environmentally friendly tools and innovative, sustainable technologies. But any company can buy Green chemicals. Crothall takes a more complete approach.
Recently, Crothall decided to formalize this commitment to Green and ensure that environmentally responsible processes are hardwired into our standard program. Third-party assessment by ISSA’s independent experts is the only way customers can be sure that their cleaning provider not only talks about Green, but has a formal program that includes the tools, chemicals, methods, staffing, training, and quality systems to support a high-quality Green cleaning program.
